TEXT: Today marks the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
72 years ago, we waged arduous struggles and toppled the three mountains of imperialism, feudalism and bureaucratic capitalism and established the People’s Republic of China and made the people master of the land. We have thus ensured the independence of our nation and liberated our people. He created the basic social conditions to achieve national renewal.
After 72 years, through the continuous efforts of the whole Party and the whole nation, we have achieved the first centennial goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. This means that we have brought a historic resolution to the problem of absolute poverty in China, and we are now walking confidently towards the second centenary goal of making China a great modern socialist country in all respects.
In 2020, in the face of shocks of a severity rarely seen before, building on what we had done to ensure stability on six key fronts, we completed the task of maintaining security in six key areas – in particularly the creation of jobs, the basic needs of life and the operations of market entities. By maintaining security, we have been able to ensure stability while pursuing progress. Thanks to all these arduous efforts, China has been able to take the lead in reopening its economy. With gross domestic product (GDP) growth for the year of 2.3 percent, a better-than-expected recovery was achieved. In doing so, we not only gained new experience in macro-regulation, but we also delivered the best possible results at an acceptable cost. A total of 11.86 million urban jobs were created and the urban unemployment rate recorded at the end of the year fell to 5.2%. We have carried out major projects to protect and restore key ecosystems in the Yangtze and Yellow River basins and along the coasts, and have intensified our ecological conservation efforts. We have taken prudent steps to defuse local government debt risks and acted quickly to defuse a number of major financial risks and potential dangers.
In 2020, steady progress has been made in the joint pursuit of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Important steps to develop the Hainan Free Trade Port and other major initiatives have been launched. The third China International Import Expo and the China International Fair for Trade in Services were successfully hosted. China played an important role in signing the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. China’s industrial chains and supply chains have remained stable. And its foreign trade and foreign investment used have shown steady growth. Online school education was introduced across the country and students returned to school for the fall semester. Over 10 million high school graduates have passed the college entrance exam. We have advanced comprehensive education reform and achieved the goal of increasing the number of students enrolled in vocational colleges by one million. Efforts have been redoubled to strengthen the public health system. We have increased the capacity to perform large-scale nucleic acid testing, and all medical bills for treating Covid-19 patients have been covered by the government. We have taken a variety of measures to maintain law and order and have continued to fight organized crime and eradicate local criminal gangs, thus making further progress in the pursuit of the Peaceful China Initiative. We implemented the Party Central Committee’s strategic plan to exercise full and strict Party autonomy, and did more to improve Party leadership, build a clean government, and fight corruption. We have consolidated the achievements of the initiative to raise awareness of the need to remain faithful to the founding mission of the Party. We have strictly adhered to the eight-point decision of the central party leadership on improving the conduct of work, and we have made sustained efforts to alleviate the burden on those working in the field.

This year, China and Pakistan ushered in grand and warm celebrations to honor the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, including high-level visits, trade and cultural activities, etc.
In recent years, we have set up a “1 + 4” cooperation structure centered on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and prioritizing the port of Gwadar, transport infrastructure, energy and industrial cooperation. Under the CPEC, 70 early harvest projects have been identified, of which 46 have been initiated or completed. A total of $ 25.4 billion has been invested, creating 70,000 jobs for Pakistan.
