Bill introduced by Reps John Curtis (R-UT) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) would give millions of consumers greater flexibility to use tax-free healthcare dollars to manage their health and well-being -be on a daily basis.
NEW YORK, September 14, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – While 77% of American adults taking vitamins and supplements, these widely used products were not eligible for purchase with a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA). However, new bipartite legislation introduced by representatives John curtis (R-UT) and Josh gottheimer (D-NJ), RH 5214 aims to change that. Health-E Commerce, parent brand of industry-leading online marketplaces FSAstore.com, HSAstore.com, WellDeservedHealth.com, and CaringMill.com today announced their support for this legislation.
“More than 70 million Americans are enrolled in FSAs and HSAs, and they rely on their pre-tax health funds to cover out-of-pocket expenses and everyday health care supplies and medications,” said Rida wong, president of Santé-E Commerce. “Like the many account holders we hear about every day, we believe that vitamins and supplements can help people manage their health and well-being and, as such, should be included in the eligible expenses of either the FSA or the HSA. Health-E Commerce welcomes and applauds these bipartisan efforts by Congress to recognize and close this important gap for individuals and families enrolled in FSAs and HSAs. “
The bipartisan tabling of this bill in the House is similar to that presented in the Senate in May 2021 (S.1654), which would also make vitamins and supplements eligible for reimbursement from an FSA or HSA.
Vitamins and supplements have long been one of the most requested eligibility categories for consumers who buy from the company’s sites, Wong says. However, to date, only prenatal vitamins and glucosamine have been recognized by the industry as eligible FSA / HSA expenses.
“Passing this legislation would go a long way in empowering consumers to manage their health at a time when our country – and the world – is laser-focused on prevention,” Wong said. “Because these products can improve overall well-being and help treat a wide range of medical conditions, account holders should be able to use their FSA or HSA to pay for them. This bill is the first step in making it a reality. “
